Tires are a material with an almost unlimited lifespan. The French brand O.T.A. considers it essential to breathe new life into this material, to create shoes for men and women that impress with their longevity. On The Asphalt as a brand name describes exactly this process – getting tires back on the road, once they have served their initial purpose, as the outsole of a shoe. This is a vision O.T.A. has pursued through extensive research and has been able to successfully achieve thanks to its commitment and passion. On The Asphalt creates trainers with a minimalist and timeless design that are both aesthetically pleasing as well as environmentally conscious and sustainable.
At O.T.A., their minimalist design trainers are made with the full benefits of materials that have the lowest possible environmental impact. Why produce new materials for eco-friendly trainers when tons of waste is available that allow them to be handcrafted in Europe? On The Asphalt trainers are made from leather and natural fabrics such as canvas and linen, but also utilize converted industrial fabrics. After extensive research and countless samples, the creators of O.T.A. have added a new product made of recycled rubber to the collection. This is wholly in line with their ethical vision and environmental responsibility. The recycled rubber comes from a European zero-waste sole factory. In O.T.A.'s collection, this is the first vegan shoe made from 100% recycled materials. The shoe's upper is made primarily from recycled rubber with some sections and the insole made from recycled plastics taken from the oceans.
To meet On The Asphalt's desire for local "Made in the EU" production and sourcing, the leather of its trainers comes exclusively from Europe. The cowhide leather used for both the interior and exterior of the shoe is known for its favorable properties, including, in particular, its sustained durability and supreme comfort. At O.T.A. they have made a conscious decision to stay away from pigskin leather. It is still considered a poor-quality leather, often tanned with a high level of chromium due to its porosity, and is commonly used in highly industrialized countries in Asia because of its low price.
